Wilda June Johnston

Wilda June Johnston passed away peacefully at the Granite RIdge Retirement Home, Gravenhurst  on February 22, 2023 in her 91st year.

June was born to the late Walker Kenneth and Jessie Lillian (Lavery) McArthur in Lachute Quebec. She studied Nutrition at MacDonald College of McGill University where she set her life goals of NOT marrying a farmer and NOT becoming a Home Economics teacher. She was successful in graduating with a Bachelor of Science but married a dashing musician who whisked her off to the wilds of Bala where they farmed cranberries together.  She (at first reluctantly) enjoyed a long career as a Home Ec teacher at Gravenhurst High School where she  touched the lives of many people.

She is predeceased by her musician/farmer husband Orville M. Johnston, her brother Kenneth McArthur in childhood  and grandson Jared Johnston in infancy.

She was a loving and firm mother to her four children Diane Johnston (Ron) of Quathiaski Cove BC, Janet (BIll) Morrison of Port St. Joe, FL, Murray Johnston (Wendy Hogarth) of Bala, ON, and Blake Johnston of no fixed address.  She thoroughly enjoyed her nine grandchildren, Riley (Hannah) Morrison of Willow Creek CA, Devon (Casie) Morrison of Atlanta GA,  North Johnston of Bala ON, Slater Johnston of Ottawa ON, Rogan Johnston of Vancouver BC, Quinn Johnston of Bala, ON, Jessie Johnston, Nelson BC, Amelia (Shane) Johnston, Halifax NS, Walker Johnston of St John’s NL.  She was blessed in her later years with three great grandchildren, Alder and Jade Morrison, and Sven Morrison.

Funeral Service will be at the Trinity United Church in Gravenhurst, at 11:00 on Thursday the 2nd of March.  Reception to follow at the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre.  The family would love for all to come and share remembrances, refreshments, and nibbles.
