Robert Charles Thornton (Bob) Veteran of W W #2 Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #302 Gravenhurst. Retired fire fighter from the Windsor Fire Department 1949-1980. Peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Granite Ridge Retirement Residence in Gravenhurst with his loving family at his side just 8 days shy of his 91st. birthday. Robert Charles Thornton beloved husband to Ellen Thornton (nee Burleigh) of Gravenhurst . Beloved father to Sandra Ann (Gary) Beecroft of Windsor. Allan Charles (Polly) Thornton of Washington, D.C., and Wayne (Sandra) Loudon of Gravenhurst . Robert is survived by his siblings; Allan Thornton of Niagara Falls, Beverly Allison of St. Catharines and Shelley (Bob) Colombe of Ridgeway. Beloved grandfather to Kriston Robert (Lynn) Thornton of Victoria B.C. Jessie Gill Thornton of Washington D. C., India Grace Thornton of Washington, D.C., and Peter Loudon ( Lisa ) of Barrie. Great grandfather to Adan Robert Thornton and Dylan Owen Thornton both of Victoria B.C. and Mikayla Loudon of Barrie. Robert is survived by his step mother Reta Thornton of Ridgeway. Robert was predeceased by his first wife Jessie Waldram Thornton in 1966 and by his son, Robert John Thornton in 1985 and by his granddaughter Karrie Robin Beecroft in 2002 . In keeping with Mr. Thornton's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation & Chapel Celebration of Life Service The family will receive friends at the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home in Gravenhurst on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a. m. A Legion service of remembrance will begin at 11:00 a. m. immediately followed by the Celebration of Life Service. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation, Bracebridge or to the Dialysis Unit at the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.
