Gravenhurst

Richard Sidney Hooks, the beloved husband to Louise and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at his home in Gravenhurst, Ontario, on August 14, 2023. He was born on September 6, 1939, in Oakville, Ontario.

He is survived by his devoted wife Louise Hooks who stood faithfully by his side throughout their journey together. Richard was also a loving father to Shari Golem (Chris Catcher) and Terry Hooks. Though they will miss him dearly, they find solace in the memories they shared with their remarkable father. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Zackery, and Anna.

Richard embraced blended families wholeheartedly; he formed a strong bond with Arthur Sharpe (Tammy), his stepson. Rachel and Richard, his step-grandchildren, and Charlie and Dylan, his honourary great-grandchildren, filled Richard's heart with an abundance of love and joy. Richard also leaves behind his nephew Ronnie Hooks.

Richard's warm smile and friendly demeanor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His genuine kindness touched the lives of many, leaving lasting impressions on both friends and strangers alike. Richard's compassionate nature extended not only to fellow humans but also to his canine companions. Brandy and Rosa were more than just pets—they were cherished members of the family who brought immeasurable joy to his life.

Richard found joy in pursuing various hobbies and interests. Camping beneath starlit skies, casting his fishing line into tranquil waters, and exploring new places with Louise by his side were among his favorite pastimes. He possessed an adventurous spirit that made him eager to discover unfamiliar landscapes and experience different cultures. Through his travels, Richard gained a profound appreciation for the beauty of the world and the diversity of its inhabitants.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no services at this time. If desired, memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated and may be arranged through Cavill Funeral Home.
