ELZINGA, Nellie (nee den Hertog) - Born in the Netherlands, immigrated to Canada in 1953. Nellie died at Leisureworld in Gravenhurst on March 2, 2015 in her 92nd year. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Marina (& Enno) Hoekstra of Gravenhurst, son Peter (& Angela) of Whistler, B.C., grandsons Davin (& Tyler) and Arin (& Samantha and great-granddaughter Ember), brother Arie (& Hetty), by many nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her husband Cor in 2012, son Sybe in 1960, brother Thijs in 2003, and brother Louis in 2008. Nellie has been involved with music since the 1940's when she played ukulele and sang with a group entertaining tuberculosis patients in Holland. In Sarnia she and Sheila Smith were known as Sarnia's Golden Girls and performed at many functions. Nellie organized the Hospital Christmas program for the Sarnia Kiwanis Club for 25 years. She has volunteered for over 60 years and entertained many groups. Nellie also sang with the Jeanettes, Melodyairs, The Rainbow Singers, Ollie Case and in church choirs. Her smiles, energy and caring manner will be sorely missed. "Thank you for the friendship" was her "TOPS" convention song, but now we say it to her. Please honour and celebrate Nellie's life in a way that is meaningful to you. We want to thank the Leisureworld staff for the friendly and kind support they have provided to Nellie. Cremation has taken place. Messages of condolence may be left at www.cavillfuneralhome.com
