Peter Daniel Sutherland May 26, 1941 - July 7, 2014 It is with both great sadness, but the knowledge of a life well lived, that we announce the death of our husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Peter Sutherland. Born and raised in Toronto, a city he loved, Peter approached life in an "all or nothing" manner. His passion for learning and history led him to a teaching career with the Toronto Board of Education. His passion for new experiences took him on travels throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, and abroad. His passion for politics saw him run for office, and to debate any and all issues of the day. His passion for people and the planet saw him in every fight for the underdog, and efforts to safeguard the environment; the family cottage on Pine Lake was especially important to him. And his passion for family and friends made him well-loved, and will make him well-remembered. Peter will be profoundly missed by his brown-eyed partner-in-life, Barbara, his daughters, Robin (Don) & Nikki (Steve), his grandsons, Liam & Kieran, and his grand-dogs, Brontë, Bingley, & Darcy. We don't know what we will do without him. Peter is resting at the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home, Gravenhurst. A short visitation will be held Saturday, July 12 at 1 pm, with a service and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, we know Peter would prefer donations to the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Messages of condolence can be left at www.cavillfuneralhome.com.
