Mitchell "Bill" Roberts

Mitchell William “Bill” Roberts, 86, of Wahta Territory passed away unexpectedly on May 30th, 2022.

Bill was born in Islington Ontario on November 19th, 1936. As a young man he quickly fell in love with the game of golf. This was a passion that lived with him throughout the rest of his life.

In his youth Bill began working at a Loblaws grocery store, quickly moving up the ranks and becoming their youngest ever department manager. This steered Bill to a long career in the grocery business, managing stores across Canada. His career eventually took him to Winnipeg Manitoba where he met and later married JoAnne Stefaniuk.

Shortly after getting married, they moved to Dauphin Manitoba, where his three boys were born. After a few years in Shilo Manitoba the Roberts family eventually made their way to Keewatin Ontario. This is where Bill’s family grew up.

In 1996 Bill made his way back home to Wahta Territory where he lived with his beloved sister Bella until his passing.

Bill was a fanatic golf fan. He would often travel across North America watching, volunteering and participating in the game. One of the things that gave him the most joy, other than golfing with his buddies, was golfing with his boys!

He spent much of his time at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 424 Bala. He was a pillar of the Legion community volunteering much of his time there as secretary and committed member. He will be dearly missed by the Bala Legion Community.

Bill is predeceased by his parents Morris and Isobel, sisters Rosie and Gloria, brothers Hank, Lloyd, and Hugh, and grandson Zachary. He is survived by his brother Ron (Val) and sister Bella, wife JoAnne, and children David (Alyson), Michael, Richard (Jennifer), and Billy (TaShawna). He was a proud grandfather to Wyatt, Makenna, Jaxon, Colton, and Callie. He will be missed by nieces and nephews, friends, and community members.

According to Bill’s wishes cremation will occur immediately. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life service in honour of Bill. It will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall Branch 424, Bala, ON. 1011 Maple Ave on Tuesday June 14th, 2022 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm.
