Leonard Franklin

January 12, 1924 — April 10, 2013

Leonard Ross Franklin passed peacefully on April 10, 2013 at the Leisureworld Retirement Home, in Gravenhurst, Ontario. He was surrounded by family who will miss him dearly, but are grateful that he is finally at peace. Ross was the devoted and loved husband of Betty (Bramhill) for more than 65 years. He was a caring and proud father to Scott & Betty, Ian & JoAnn, Stuart & Cathie, Rob & Karen and John & Colleen and was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren, Patrick, Andrew, Kelly, Brian, Christopher, Julie and Jeremy. He also welcomed Betty's children, Nick, Katie and Lucas, as well as JoAnn's children, Allison and Kevin, to his family. Ross's great-grandchildren; Josiah, Samuel, Eliana, Ella, Will, Gillian, Hanna, Clara, Leigha, Jacob and Madelyn gave him much joy, even when his failing memory prevented him from knowing them well. Ross was well known in the insurance business in the Toronto area and was a member of Insurance Industry's Million Dollar Round Table. He was passionate about community service, and was the President of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Toronto and Chair of the Board of Directors of Transition House Inc., for several years. His real enjoyment, however, was at the card table, where he was a brilliant bridge player, earning the rank of Life Master. Ross loved the family cottage at Pine Lake and, in 2006, he and Betty left Caledon East and moved to Gravenhurst where they became active members of the community, joining the Rotary Club, the Probus Club, The Elderberries Choir, the Gravenhurst Curling Club and Trinity United Church. Ross was a proud Canadian and served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Ross's family welcome friends to visit with them on Saturday April 13, 2013 at Trinity United Church, 290 Muskoka Road North, Gravenhurst, Ontario, a half hour prior to a service, at 2:00 pm, to celebrate his life. Donations may be made to the Rotary Bursary Endowment Fund, Ross and Betty Franklin Bursary, Box 888, Gravenhurst, ON P1P 1Z2.
