Gravenhurst

John Wesley York, affectionately known as “Jack,” passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the age of 76. Jack was the beloved husband of 38 years to Katherine.

Jack was truly a family man. He was the loving father of Peggy Schofield (Peter) and the late John York (Lori), as well as Jennifer Marr (Todd) and Mitchell Inch (Rachel). Jack was a proud grandfather of 10: Amanda (Stephanie), Daniel, Wesley, Caitlin (Joe), Delilah, Jacob (Abriel), Jonah, Summer, Arabella, and Ronin. Brother of the late Sandra Blake (Bud) and the late Mary Anne York. He is also survived by in-laws Greg Lee, Margaret Taylor (Eddy), and Lloyd Lee.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy York, as well as in-laws Herbert and Patricia Lee, and Debbie Goforth (Keith).

Jack was a very well-loved man. He cherished family above everything. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones up until his very last moments. He was well-known for his fantastic stories, and sense of humour. He was always entertaining to anyone around him. He loved to spend time outdoors, especially camping and sitting around a fire with family and friends. He cherished memories in the simple things in life and made the most of everything he could.

He was also known to be a big car enthusiast. He loved classic cars and could always be found at any car show that was taking place in the area. In particular, he loved a 1948 Ford, in red, of course.

Jack also was known for his love of yard sales. He always walked around with enough cash “just in case” he came across something at a yard sale that he couldn’t pass on. He not only visited yard sales, but he also enjoyed hosting them. He was known for being a handy-man and was always buying things such as lawn mowers and snow blowers to fix up and resell. No matter the problem, he’d always spend the time to get it up and running again, and enjoyed every part of the process.

As per Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place in 2025 and will be announced at a later date. If desired, memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated and may be arranged online, or through Cavill Funeral Home.

Jack’s life was a one well-lived. His memory will be carried on by all of those who knew him, and will be forever cherished.
