Gravenhurst

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Dalby of Gravenhurst, who left us peacefully, after a brief but courageous battle with ALS, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, Bracebridge, ON.

Beloved husband of the late Marg Ennest-Dalby, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years. Loving father to Sandra Ennest (Jason), Kristen Dalby (Richie), and Jennifer Dalby. Cherished grandfather to Maple, who brought endless joy into his life.

He will be deeply missed by his brother Gary Dalby (Kathy), and his sisters Janice Reinholz (late Frank), and Barbara Dalby.

John was known for his sharp wit, quick humour, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. A true social spirit, he never missed an opportunity to share a laugh or a story — usually both.

His passion for the outdoors was unmatched — especially when the snow flew. If there was snow, that’s where he’d go, skidooing through winter landscapes with joy and energy. Summers were just as full, camping for over 20 years at Butterfly Lake Trailer Park with his beloved wife and daughters, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

A proud lifelong resident of Gravenhurst, he spent 25 years working as a salesman for Brown’s Beverages before launching his own successful distribution business, which he ran for over three decades.

His legacy of laughter, warmth, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 7th at the Gravenhurst Legion from 1:00 until 4:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Society or Andy’s house.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the hospital for their compassionate care of John.
