John Ayling

March 20, 1918 — June 11, 2018

Ayling, John Charlton - Passed away peacefully on June 11, 2018 at the age of 100 at the South Muskoka Hospital with his family by his side. Predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen (Molly) Ayling. He is survived by his loving son, John Peter Ayling, and daughter, Julia McLean-Squires (Austin Squires). Very proud grandfather of Melanie Jane Craig and Laura Jane McLean. Great grandfather of Joseph Dermot McMahon, Owen John McMahon, and Jenna Sarah Craig. Beloved brother of Joan Mary Jubenvile (deceased) and Phillip Edward Ayling (deceased) and uncle to nephews and nieces. Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan in 1918. He had a very active life. He spent most of his career at Timken Roller Bearing Company in St. Thomas Ontario. Moved to Gravenhurst in 1989 to be close to the Bala cottage. After retiring his passion was for curling, sailing, bridge, music (Piano, tuba, choirs) and volunteerism for various organizations including, Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Rotary, Shriners, Masons, Salvation Army Kettles and Senior Centre just to name a few occupied most of his time. He was awarded Senior Citizen of the year for his volunteerism. He played in the Bifocals Band and won a Special Award for his tuba playing. He was granted life time memberships for the Gravenhurst Curling Club and the Bala Sailing Club. He moved into the Manor at Gravenhurst where he was made the "Mayor of the Manor". Specials thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Manor for taking such good care of him over the past few years. He loved it there, especially all the staff that made his stay so warm and pleasant. Also special thank you to Dr. Richardson, Dr. MacLennan and the nursing staff for their gentle care in his final days. A service to celebrate John's life will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation being held one hour prior. Donations can be made to South Muskoka Hospital or Trinity United Church if you wish. Messages of condolence may be left at www.cavillfuneralhome.com.
