Anderson, John It is with great sadness that the Anderson family announces the passing of John Anderson at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge, Ontario on Wednesday January 02, 2013 in his 93rd. year. Beloved husband of 61 years to his late wife Pauline Stromberg Anderson (nee Johnston) and predeceased by his brother James Anderson (Dorothy). John was a wonderful father to Donald (Trudy) Anderson of Newmarket and late Dianne VanStraten of Oshawa. He was a fun and loving grandfather to Veronica (Josh) Elliott, Shelby Anderson , Jennifer (Dean) Perry and Justin (Nicole) VanStraten. He was the proud great grandfather to Diana Perry, Jacob VanStraten and Noah VanStraten. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Dorothy Anderson and by his nieces Cindy (Larry) Girard, Holly Anderson and Shelley Anderson. Born on April 23, 1920 in Lochwinnoch, Scotland, John and his family came to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1923. He joined the army in 1941, landed in England on June 26, 1944 and was discharged on January 15, 1946. John married Pauline on June 2, 1947. He graduated from the University of Toronto with an Engineering degree before starting work with Alcan in 1951. He retired and moved to the Gravenhurst area in 1982. In retirement he did volunteer work in Gravenhurst, played golf, enjoyed wood working, and was a member of the Elderberry Choir and the Bifocal Band. We loved him and we will miss him. A gathering to celebrate the life of John Anderson will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 191 Hotchkiss St., Gravenhurst on Saturday January 19, 2013 from 1-4 p. m. In memory of John Anderson, donations to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation, 75 Ann Street, Bracebridge, Ont. PIL 2E4 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
