It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Giesela Karin Kennett on January 21, 2025, at the age of 70. Giesela was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and friend who brought light and laughter to everyone who knew her.
Giesela leaves behind her beloved husband, John Kennett, with whom she shared 13 cherished years filled with love and adventure.
She was the proud and loving mother of her three daughters: Denise Harriott (Anton) and their sons Christopher and Brandon Harriott; Nicole Poirier (Alain) and their children Abigail and Nicolas Poirier, along with Chelsea Nicholson; Angela Chamberland and her children Zack and Samantha Chamberland.
Giesela was also a caring stepmother to John’s sons, TJ McIsaac Kennett (Kerri) and their children Patrick and Braden McIsaac Kennett, as well as Ryan McIsaac Quan-Vie (Krista) and their daughters Aella and Aeva McIsaac Quan-Vie. Also missed by her dear sister Theresia Ida Tasler whom she lovingly referred to as Rosie, as well as her niece Tanya Toussaint.
A special acknowledgment is made to Giesela’s dear Uncle Herbert McKowe, who, along with his late wife Aunt Bertha, lovingly raised Giesela and her sister after their father’s passing in Germany. In 1965, Giesela moved to Canada and found a new home in Winnipeg with Uncle Herbert and Aunt Bertha, where she grew up surrounded by their care and guidance. Their love and support shaped the extraordinary woman she became.
Giesela’s life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and family. She adored spending time at the trailer with John, where camping, boating, and making memories with her grandchildren brought her immense joy. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved them more than anything in the world.
Known for her culinary skills, her family always looked forward to her delicious meals. Around the card table, Giesela’s grandchildren affectionately called her a “card shark,” as her quick wit and competitive spirit made every game unforgettable.
Giesela had a gift for making everyone feel special. She was an extraordinary social worker who went above and beyond for the residents and families she served. Her dedication and compassion left a lasting impact on many lives.
Her creativity knew no bounds—she mastered knitting and crocheting, and each family member treasures one of her lovingly crafted blankets. Always youthful at heart, she was surprisingly adept at staying up to date on the latest Mario and Zelda games.
Giesela was the glue that held her family together. Her wicked sense of humor, brilliant mind, and boundless wisdom made her irreplaceable. Though the sun doesn’t shine quite as brightly without her, her memory will forever light our way.
As a strong, loving woman filled with wisdom and warmth, Giesela will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. We love her to the moon and back and will hold her in our hearts forever and always.
A celebration of Giesela’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Andy’s House – Hospice Muskoka.
Rest in peace, Giesela. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy of love and joy will live on
