Florence died peacefully on September 12, 2023, at the Wildwood Care Centre in St. Marys, ON. Dementia grew her world small, yet she always knew she was loved by her children, especially during her final days. She was not alone in her dying.
Florence was born on April 8, 1929, in Kitchener, ON. She was the beloved wife of the late Everett William Henry Doherty. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by all who loved them.
Florence was a devoted mother to her children: Tom (Maryann), Jamie (Chris), Jill, and Jackie (John). She provided a loving home and supported her childrens’ endeavours as she was able.
In addition, Florence knew the joy of a grandmother. She leaves behind Ryan (Alina), Matthew (Jenifer), Rachel (Adam), Anne (Tim), David (Kayla), Nicole (Matthew), Jordan (Laura), Taylor (Rustin), Ashley (Andres), Kyle (Michael Ryan), and Wesley.
Furthermore, Florence had the pleasure of watching her family grow with the arrival of great-grandchildren Emily, Caeden, Liam, Avalynn, Sasha, Laine, Charlotte and Kate.
Florence enjoyed creating a home for her husband, children and family. Her passions also included decorating, sewing, knitting, cooking, and baking. She sang in the church choir. She loved Muskoka. At Wildwood, she could be heard saying, “You know, I really like my room. And the food here is very good. And the people are so nice.”
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at the Cavill - Turner Funeral Home located at 215-1 Bay Street in Gravenhurst, ON on September 18th, at 11:30 AM. A Funeral Service follows at 12:00 noon providing a time for all who loved Florence to come together, share stories, and celebrate the life she lived. Internment to take place in Spence Cemetery, Magnetewan, ON. Reception to follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Magnetewan.
In memory of Florence, donations may be directed to either the Rotary Club Endowment Fund – Everett and Florence Doherty Family Bursary (in support of student bursaries) or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Florence Loraine Doherty's legacy will continue to live on through the memories she created with her family and friends. She is imagined as being reunited with Ev, and enjoying an ice cream sundae, her favourite food group.
