Edward "Ted" Smith

Smith, Edward “Ted” - Very sadly, Ted passed away peacefully at Muskoka Shores, in Gravenhurst, on January 7, 2022. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided for Ted by the staff at Muskoka Shores for the past three and a half years.

Ted was the beloved husband of the late Joyce Anne (O’Hara), of 70 years, who predeceased Ted in 2020.  Cherished father of Bruce, Brian, and Peter. Loving grandfather of Meghan, Kevin, Jennifer, Sarah, Daniel, and Juan Diego. Dear brother of Marjorie Cairns. Predeceased by his son Ron in 2005, and four of his siblings, Allan, Ken, David, and Evelyn.

Ted worked at Canada Packers for 39 years, after graduating from University of Toronto, in 1947 with a BASc in Chemical Engineering. He retired, in October of 1986, as a Vice-President and Director at Canada Packers.

Ted retired in 1986 and he, Joyce, and Peter made Gravenhurst their new year-round home, after spending summers at their cottage in Muskoka that Ted built in 1954. Ted spent many years as a member of the Rotary Club of Gravenhurst, being honoured with the Paul Harris Award and as an Honorary Member.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 7 at 11 am, to honour Ted & Joyce as they will be re-united with their son Ron, in the family plot, in Mickle Memorial Cemetery, Gravenhurst, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted’s memory, please consider a donation to the Gravenhurst Against Poverty (GAP). Messages of condolence and memories may be shared at www.cavillfuneralhome.com.
