Douglas Keith Thompson passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, Bracebridge, Ontario.
Doug was a dedicated steel worker who spent many years contributing his skills and hard work at Stelco Steel. His commitment to his career was matched only by his warm nature, earning him a reputation as a happy-go-lucky individual and a great friend. Those who knew him recognized him not only as a good father but also as a cherished companion to many.
Doug had a deep passion for woodworking and was often found tinkering away in his workshop, a space he frequented more than his home. He possessed an impressive collection of tools and never hesitated to lend a hand or share his expertise with others. His love for sports was another defining aspect of his life; he enjoyed coaching minor hockey and baseball, guiding young athletes with enthusiasm and dedication. As a loyal sports fan, he especially cherished his time following the Dallas Cowboys in football, celebrating each game with fervor.
Doug was the beloved husband of Betty Ann (Kolochuck), a loving father to David and Tiffany (predeceased) Thompson. Doug was the son of Shirley (White) and the late Evan Thompson. He is survived by his siblings Sharon, Tom (Christine), Cheryl Anne (Jeff), Ina (Andy), Sarah (Brad), and Scott (Cheryl). Dear uncle to Corey, Cassandra, and Jessie-Lynn. Doug will also be warmly remembered by dear friends Gary and Maggie and family.
The legacy of Doug’s kindness, generosity, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will surely echo in the hearts of family and friends for years to come.
Memorial contributions to Canadian Diabetes Society and Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
