Douglas Thain

Passed away peacefully, at his home in Gravenhurst, on Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 at the age of 84. Dearly loved husband of Joyce (nee Goerk) for 62 years. Loving father of Carolyn Thain, Kathy McCauley, Colleen Knapp (Greg) and Paul Thain. Cherished grandfather of Jeff Knapp (Kirsten) and Jonathan McCauley. Proud great-grandfather of Kenzie Grove. Survived by his sister Doreen Everest. Pre-deceased by his brother Bill Thain (Agnes) and sisters Jean Zinnani (Buck) and Agnes McFarland. Also pre-deceased by his brother-in-law Reg Everest. Survived by Joyce's family (his brother-in-law) Alex and his wife Leona Goerk. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Uncle Doug was especially close to his nephews Lester Everest and Michael Goerk (Theresa) and their children Katrina & Kevin Goerk and also his nieces Sharon Hickey and Brenda Burtch. Friends will be received at Cavill-Turner Funeral Home in Gravenhurst on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Pinegrove Baptist Church, 295 Taylor Rd, Bracebridge on Friday, June 3rd, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon reception to follow in the Church Hall with Burial at Mickle Memorial Cemetery in Gravenhurst at 2:00 p.m. that same afternoon. Memorial gifts to Pinegrove Fellowship Baptist Church, 295 Taylor Rd., P1L 1K1 or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
