Douglas Hartley

Hartley, Douglas Gordon (Doug) December 11, 1944 - November 7, 2013 Passed away peacefully at home in Gravenhurst with his family and dearest friends by his side, on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the age of 68. Cherished husband of 47 years, and best friend of Marilyn (nee McLeod). Dearest friend to Richard and Colleen Spence. Loving father of Deanne (Rick), Andrea (John), and Cameron (Sarah). Proud Papa of Daniel, Dana, Campbell, Luke, Liam, Marin, Sophie, Graydon and Davis. Beloved brother to Jack (deceased) and his wife, Marion, and Russell and his wife, Gail. Special uncle to many nieces and nephews. In his early years, Doug was an accomplished athlete and fastball player, and traveled extensively throughout Canada and the U. S. with his ball team. Doug was a dynamic and passionate leader in the toy industry for over 30 years. Though his success made him an admired individual, it was his ability to forge deep and meaningful friendships with people from all areas of his life that made him truly remarkable. He had a profound respect for people from all walks of life, and quickly endeared himself to others through his charismatic personality. Doug faced his cancer diagnosis in July with great strength and courage. Very special thanks to Dr. Kristen Jones of Gravenhurst, RVH Regional Cancer Centre and the South Muskoka Hospital staff for providing such personal care, and especially to all his caregivers who made it possible and comfortable for him to be at home. If desired, donations to Canadian Tire's Jumpstart program or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. The family will receive friends at the Cavill-Turner Funeral Home, Gravenhurst on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 6-9 p. m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 12 noon until 1 p. m. at the Grace & Speed Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre, 275 Steamship Bay Road, Muskoka Wharf, Gravenhurst. A service to celebrate the life of Douglas Gordon Hartley will take place on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 1:00 p. m. Family and friends are welcome to share memories following the service.
