May 6, 1928 – December 9, 2020
Dorothy Andrews of Gravenhurst passed away in her sleep on December 9, 2020, at Muskoka Shores. Daughters Dale Durnan (Gord) of Gravenhurst and Catherine McCann (Stephen) of Hamilton were with her daily until the end.
Dorothy’s husband of 63 years Rupert Andrews predeceased her having died September 15, 2013.
Dorothy enjoyed the love of two granddaughters Shannon Durnan of Gravenhurst, and Sarah Durnan (Chris Cunningham) of Mississauga, along with great grandson Maximus.
Dorothy spent more than 25 years working at the Town of Richmond Hill retiring at age 60 to enjoy the good life of cottaging at Sand Castle Estates on Georgian Bay. Cottage nights were always filled with board games, euchre, stories around the fire pit and we can’t forget the ladies painting weekends. When not at the cottage, the couple enjoyed cruising the world and spending winters in Destin Florida with their faithful dog Barney.
Dorothy loved music, she taught piano for many years. Music and song were a constant part of family time, especially at Christmas. She loved to play the oldies. Stardust was Rupert and Dorothy’s favourite dancing song.
When Dorothy and Rupert first moved to Gravenhurst, they quickly became part of the community. Dorothy loved the ladies group who welcomed her for knitting, food and great conversation.
There will be no formal funeral. Dorothy’s wish is to spend eternity with Rupert so her ashes will be spread at the cottage on the shores of Georgian Bay.
On behalf of the whole family, we would like to express our sincerest thank you to the staff of Muskoka Shores. Your dedication and compassionate care of our mother for the last 2 years has been a blessing.
Friends who wish may make a charitable donation to their favourite Muskoka Charity or to Diabetes Canada as Dorothy was diabetic for more than 50 years.
