I would also like to thank Dr.Gleeson and Nurse June for all of their compassion and care through this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. As per Don's wishes there will be no funeral or memorial. Don was born in Niagara Falls but the family moved to Gravenhurst as a result of his fathers health. The oldest of five children, Don married when he was 23 years old to Doris Comer and had three children, Debbie, Dianne and Doug. He worked for the Town of Gravenhurst, as a grader operator for 8 years, before he took sick. Don was a volunteer Fire Fighter through out the 70's, enjoying the many tasks that were placed before him. Don chose a profession as a long haul truck driver. After working for Mel's Transport in the 60's, Don moved back to Gravenhurst and in the late 70's he began a life long career working for a man he respected, Paul Hammond, at Muskoka Transport. Retiring in the early 2000's he drove far more than a million miles. Travelling through all of North America and loving every mile! In any conversation anyone had with Don, he would always turn the conversation to driving truck. He had his beers, his stories, his laughs with many men and wouldn't change a day! Don, was a longstanding member of the Gravenhurst Lions and became president in 94-95. Volunteering for different charities and organizations within the Lions Club, filled him with pride. After 9 heart attacks and 3 strokes Don was still out fishing 6 weeks ago enjoying the life of a Muskokan! Always telling a joke or being a smart ass, it made his day to have made someone laugh. Whispers from heaven Calling your name Preparing you for your journey home A million miles and more you've travelled A million hearts you've touched Whispers from heaven Calling your name A life full of laughter, love, joy and heartache Will all be unfolded now Whispers from heaven eased your fears Whispers from heaven will ease ours Go, be with those that you have loved and lost Be free Whispers from heaven Calling your name
