After living with cancer for over 11 years, Dave passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was in his 84th year. Dave leaves behind, his wife Jackie, of 57 years, and their children Robert (Lori), and Jennifer (John Babic). He will also be sadly missed by his 5 grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Abigail, Graham, and Braeden Budgeon, and Jeffery, and Isabelle Babic.
Dave was predeceased by his parents Gladys and Allan Budgeon and his brother Bruce. He is survived by his siters Judy Niska (Unto), Linda Dafour (Daniel), Beverlee Montgomery (Tim), and Margaret Lapierre (Norm). Also missing Dave are his sister-in-law Rosemary Moore, 13 nieces, nephews, along with many long-time friends.
Born in Malartic, QC, Dave spent his childhood in Northwest Quebec before his family settled in Val D’Or. He began his career as a surveyor with the Federal Gov’t traversing the High Arctic. Dog sleds were used in the Yukon while motorized toboggans were used in the Hudson Bay Lowlands. After leaving the Federal Gov’t, Dave went to survey for the Ontario Dept. of Highways. When Dave retired, He became an avid curler. As an active volunteer in Gravenhurst, he helped organize a junior curling program, assisted in mapping out several walking trails, including the Trans Canada Trail, and was a member of the Communities in Bloom program.
As per Dave’s request, cremation has taken place and a private celebration honouring Dave’s life will be held at a later date.
