We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Lewis Mortimer on November 27th, 2024.
Lewis was the son of Pamela McKenzie Mortimer (Franz) and Michael Mortimer (Julie). He was a loving partner to Corrine Marshall. Lewis was a devoted father to Ayrianna, Maclean, Jaylynn, and Rayelle. Dear brother to Joelle Mortimer (Karl), and proud uncle to Summer and Ryder. Cherished grandson to Charles Mortimer, the late Norma McCleary, Joan, and the late Brian Gammon. He will also be sadly missed by cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Spending time with his kids was the highlight of Lewis’s life. The kids remember the times dad played video games with Mac, built snow forts, bike rides, made torches at the sugar shack, and taught Jay her numbers, letters, and colours. For the children, those days with Lewis were not just memories; they were foundational experiences that taught them the value of creativity, friendship, and the simple joys of life.
In reflection, some of Joelle’s favourite memories of her brother were ones of him becoming a dad and spending time with his children. He was proud of raising his daughter alongside Joelle’s and watching them become best friends. No one could make her laugh like her brother could.
As Corrine reflected on their life together, she felt a profound gratitude for the amazing father he was to their children. She loved the way he was always shamelessly himself and made sure everyone around him felt included.
He was crafty, sassy, and resourceful. In Lewis’s world everyone was equal – race, colour, exclusivity did not exist. His ability to light up a room with humour and personality were unmatched. He was a kind and polite soul.
Most everyone that knew Lewis has that memory of him zooming past on a bicycle, skateboard, or dirt bike. If it had wheels on it, he was in love with it. In his early years, he loved pounding the drums and playing the piano.
Before his passing, Lewis made a conscious decision to better his life. Despite facing struggles along the way, Lewis's resilience and determination fueled him as he navigated this transformative chapter.
As he moved forward, Lewis felt a sense of peace and fulfillment, excited by the prospect of what the future might hold. Little did he know that his journey would soon take an unexpected turn, one that would challenge everything he had come to cherish.
To honour Lewis’s memory, a memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10:00am with reception to follow in the church hall.
If desired, memorial contributions to OSPCA would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged through Cavill Funeral Home.
