BOWINS, Bernard Peter (Bernie) 65 of Gravenhurst, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 23, 2017. Bernie was born in Lindsay, Ontario on September 29, 1952 to Peter and Eileen (nee Frank) Bowins. He is survived by his (Lady Di) Dianne Forsythe, dearly missed by his bonus children: Sherri-Lynn (Gary) Carney, Cherie Forsythe and Sean (Trish) Forsythe. Grandchildren: Rebekah, Devon, Sadie and Max. Sadie and Max will miss and affectionately remember all the loved, joy, fun and extra treats and special times they had with their Grandpa/Papa. Bernie will be dearly missed by his siblings: Theresa (Mike), his work out buddy, Kenneth (Karen), Daniel and Brenda. He will be lovingly remembered by his niece Joanne (Sheldon) and nephew Devin. Bernie was a great uncle to the late Zachary, and to his special helper Joshua, Emily, Owen and the late Wyatt. He will also be greatly missed by all of the Peters Family. Bernie started his illustrious career in the Pharmaceutical and customer service field. Known for his welcoming smile and helpful manner he worked as a teenager at what would become the Guardian Drug Store. After Bernie graduated from Humber College as a Pharmacy Assistant he eventually became a co-owner along with his good friends Tony and Penny Varney and Bob Jewiss. Bernie will be remembered as a great businessman , one who lead the Gravenhurst Board of Trade into a new direction with the development of the Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce. He was the president of both the Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce and the BIA simultaneously. Bernie was always a man trying to make Gravenhurst the best town it could possibly be.Bernie will be remembered as a quiet gentle man, one who enjoyed socializing with friends and family at his beloved boat house, or at the Gravenhurst Legion or up north at the cottage. Bernie loved traveling and learning about new technology. "Whisper words of Wisdom. Let it Be, Let it Be" - Beatles A gathering to celebrate Bernie's life will be held at the Gravenhurst Royal Canadian Legion Hall On Friday, November 17, 2017 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. with memories being shared beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a tribute of kindness in Bernie's name could be payed forward or memorial donations may be directed to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The War Amps or to the Diabetes Association.
