Avis "Leona" Summerhayes, a beloved Personal Support Worker, passed away on July 4, 2024, at Hamilton General Hospital in Hamilton, ON. She was born on April 29, 1941, in Halifax, NS. Leona, known for her love of dancing and singing, had a passion for lighthouses, carnations, and believed that she would one day return a majestic wolf.
Leona had a vibrant personality and a heart full of joy. Her hobbies included boating, going to the beach, camping, playing Solitaire - a game she enjoyed day and night with the constant sound of the mouse clicking away. Despite not being an expert baker, she found pure joy in baking. Road trips, western movies, and country music - particularly Johnny Cash's tunes held a special place in her heart. The Mandarin was her favorite dining spot where she cherished meals with her loved ones.
Leona was the loving mother of Shannon, Steven, and Noel; Cherished grandmother of Jayden, Jenna, Marijane, Kelli, Johnathan, and Ashley; great-grandmother to many grandchildren with newest born being Cassandra *Cassie*; Dear sister of Shirley, Johnny, and Laura. Leona is now reunited with her late husband Elwin Lewis and late sibling Snookie.
A graveside service to honor the beautiful life of Avis Leona Summerhayes will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, starting at 1:00 PM at Mickle Memorial Cemetery in Gravenhurst. The service will be a time for family and friends to come together to celebrate her life and cherish the memories they shared with her.
Leona touched the hearts of many with her kind spirit and infectious laughter. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love she shared with those around her. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy lives on through those who were fortunate enough to know her.
