Life Story for Eva McCoy (Herschberger)

Eva McCoy was a loving wife to Steve McCoy. A caring Mother to Heidi (Kirk) Losee, Laura McCoy and Dan McCoy. Older sister to Richard Preletz and Grandma to Ben Gervais. Daughter of Katharina Preletz (Cookie).
Eva was a very strong and incredibly sweet caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Eva and her husband Steve were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next spring and resided on Gull Lake where their house was the hub for family get-togethers, a constant revolving door where family was greeted with Eva’s standard welcome: “How are you and could I get you something to eat?” Eva always made sure that the house was full of German treats which she and Cookie, her mother, prepared from old family recipes. It was a place where family knew the routine and guests were made to feel like family. Eva also loved to welcome her life-long best friend, Marie.
You might have run into Eva at the local KFC where she had previously worked and earned her chicken plucking degree. She later spent many years alongside Steve and other family members working on Squirrel Island on Lake Muskoka, not only providing a sense of home to her own family but also for others. You could find her at the Gravenhurst Legion Hall on Bingo night where she would take care of her own bingo cards and everyone else’s.
She had a great love of music, and played oldies in her car, including hits from the 50s, 60s, Abba, Queen, and beyond. She sent all of her kids to piano lessons and relatives can recall Eva’s breakfasts with her selection of fun music. She knew how to have a good time.
Eva was a strong and optimistic woman. She had a great love for music and Scrabble and could always be found caring for or encouraging others. She gave everything to her family and friends and was considered a mother by many. Her spirit and beautiful smile lives on in all of us.
